The project is in cooperation with local small and medium enterprises working with PICA. The plantations established under this project are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), thereby introducing sustainable forestry practices to the region and ensuring the long-term social and economic well-being of forest workers and local communities.
Some 800 permanent forestry jobs were created, helping to combat poverty in the region. The planting of trees also restores degraded lands, which in turn reduces soil erosion, protects biodiversity, and conserves water and natural resources. (FC)
